the leather canary xmas mix #6

i usually try to stay away from some of the more depressing holiday music out there (which is actually harder than it seems), but if a song is good i'll probably listen to it regardless of the tone it sets...with that being said, i've included a few melancholy numbers in this sixth christmas mix from the likes of randy newman, rilo kiley & sufjan stevens, among others...but there's also a decent amount of upbeat material from bands like the db's, nrbq, & booker t. & the m.g.'s to even things out...hope you like it...& make sure you check out "kung fu christmas" from national lampoon's 1975 album, good-bye pop, featuring music by christopher guest & paul shaffer & lyrics by brian doyle-murray, bill murray & gilda radner...it's great...i might do one more of these later in the week, but if you haven't gotten your fill of christmas tunes from the leather canary xmas mixes, there's a lot of other sites out there offering up some really good holiday music, starting with big rock candy mountain & 77 santas, who have both dedicated a ton of time to providing great songs for the season...anyways, enjoy.

related: that ohmega watts remix is probably the closest you'll get to hearing hip-hop on these mixes, but that doesn't mean there aren't great hip-hop christmas songs...it's just that it's a little hard to transition from aimee mann to eazy-e...anyways, here are a couple to fill the void & if it's not enough, let me again highly recommend stone throws badd santa disc, presented by peanut butter wolf.
