after reading dave's recent post on the new asterisk & dusty groove record labels, i was psyched to see that one of the first albums dusty groove has reissued is 1970's the rubaiyat of dorothy ashby featuring the incredible "moving finger"...ashby, one of the few great jazz harpists, got pretty funky near the end of the 60's, when she cut three albums with chicago soul arranger richard evans for the cadet label...after the last one (this one) she moved to the west coast where she remained until her death in 1986 an active session musician who was commissioned by artists like earth wind & fire, bill withers, & stevie wonder...still, this is some of her best work.
